International advanced composites group Quickstep Holdings Limited (ASX: QHL - "Quickstep") has confirmed that it is seeking a partner or outright sale of the Flat Out Boat ("FOB") Technology so that it can focus on its core business of aerospace manufacture and Quickstep Process technology provision.
Quickstep acquired FOB with the intention of launching the new design product onto the world market. Despite high hopes and a passionate interest of the FOB Business Manager Stefano Piviali the Company has found itself focusing on the bigger picture of becoming an aerospace and defence subcontractor. Initially this caused delays to the program but ultimately it has seen the project sidelined to focus on its aerospace part production.
An opportunity now exists for a company or individual to take on the FOB project and bring the product to market.
Over 200 people have taken an option to purchase an FOB and already this patented boat design has created considerable interest with articles run in a number of magazines and for winning an award on the New Inventors Program on the ABC.
Design development of the new model is complete and it is estimated that 85% of the engineering design is also completed. There are patents covering the original Collapsible design and further patent applications covering the concealed bracing, providing the end purchaser with a modern design with IP protection.
Design improvements include
- Molded seats,
- Concealed seats, transom and foredeck attachments,
- Elimination of all visible screws and pop rivets.
- Improved stiffness
- Increased reserve buoyancy
- Gunwale to protect the top edge and other boats, and
- A new, iconic, 'Nose Cone' that is also a fairlead, a handle and a bumper.
The Flat Out Boat is an outstanding, functional and desirable boat that when put into production should see global interest and we think a cult following. Nothing like it to our knowledge comes close to its performance and functionality.
Now it is a matter of someone taking this opportunity and bringing it to market.
